Photograph with optically treated glass
28.5 x 36.5 x 3.5 cm
From a new series of optical illusion and perspective based photographs, this work redistributes the power of the gaze. When standing in front of the photograph - in direct confrontation - the image appears disturbingly out of focus and the subject's eyes appear to be glancing away form the viewer at something in the image's own anterior view.
When the viewer gazes at the image from the side, or passes across its plane, it appears as if the image becomes enlivened and jumps to a gaze directly back at the viewer.
